Project 1: Design and assembly of portable image acquisition and
wireless data transmission system. Overall objective is the construction
of a portable pc-based system with video frame grabber, image analysis
software, wireless LAN, and GPS location detection to support work on
remote chemical sensors. This project can support several design teams.
The main topic for each team would be:
- optical engineering and illuminator interface: design and
construction of illumination and imaging optical system; also
requires serial interface to control multi-LED illuminator. This
could be either one or two teams, depending on the exact goals set.
- portable data collection system design: identify
commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) components to construct complete
data collection and transmission system. Data input will be
video (either S or NTSC). Required output must include
processed images and geographical location, transmitted via a
wireless communications channel.
- the type of portable we might want to use is described here
.
- image/data analysis and system control: software design and
implementation to control the optical system and data collected by
the portable systems discussed above.
Make sure to look at the projects from Spring 1999 and 2001 listed above.
